This independent much loved local in Devon currently has an opportunity for a creative sous chef, who would like to have menu input, using fantastic local farm suppliers with the ambition to take the food up a notch from the existing classic British pub fare. The site has a strong music following with regular high profile bands playing. The owner has recently invested in the kitchen and is now seeking an accomplished sous chef to support the head chef to become more of a destination foodie site. The site is set in a stunning rural Devon location and is surrounded by picturesque beaches popular with the surfing crowd and beautiful countryside. The trade is currently quite seasonal with very busy summers and the owner is therefore looking to promote the food offering and has invested in the kitchen.

Role Details:

As the Sous chef who will be a key player in the running of the kitchen team. You will have great social skills and be able to be managed and developed by the Head Chef, but also be able to be a leader to the rest of the small team. You will be focused on supporting and helping implement the day-to-day running of the kitchen to encompass the service, safety and high standards set by the Head Chef. You’ll assist the Head Chef with new menus and dishes and will have your own creativity flair to constantly push for exciting new dishes whilst helping tweak the good old classics. You will also be expected to be able to run the kitchen in the absence of the Head chef when required.

  • Directing the food preparation process and delegating tasks to junior members of the kitchen team
  • Cooking and preparing high quality dishes whilst ensuring food quality and excellent standards are maintained for all dishes created.
  • Assisting the Head Chef to create menu items, recipes and develop dishes along with assisting with determining food inventory needs, stocking and ordering.
  • Ensuring the kitchen meets all regulations including sanitary and food safety guidelines

About you 

Enjoy working as a part of a small friendly team 

Experienced in working in a quality fresh food pub environment working with local suppliers and seasonal ingredients 

Able to run the kitchen in the abscense of the head chef in a calm and measured manner. 

will need to have verifiable references 

Salary and Benefits 

£37,000 based on a full-time 48 hour per week contract

share of tips 

staff accommodation/ 300 per month inclusive of all bills
