This was my fifth visit to the Garrison, and it was by far the most enjoyable. I was with two very dear friends for a long overdue catch-up. We had the pleasure of being served by a very charming waiter who was not only very informed but extremely entertaining and not at all intrusive.
I started with a smoked duck breast salad with an amazing raspberry and walnut dressing; I was dubious at the inclusion of such a strong flavoured berry but was so glad I persevered. My friends ordered an elaborate crayfish cocktail which they both devoured with relish.
We ordered a delightful Touraine Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our main courses, I ordered a wonderful Veal Slatimbocca which was rolled with dolce latte and served with soft polenta and a flavoursome sage jus. My friends ordered similarly- a creamy looking spinach and ricotta tortelloni, both enjoyed tremendously.
After a good twenty minutes we were offered pudding which, as etiquette seems to command, we initially declined swiftly followed by a “ok, one chocolate brownie and three spoons…” married with a perfectly chilled Muscat it was the ideal end to a rather special evening.
I would certainly recommend The Garrison for any occasion as it has a real homely feel with bags of character. 5 Stars!!
